The Qidong Printmaking Institute launched a special exhibition on June 5, offering visitors a glimpse into nearly half a century of printmaking history. In the exhibition hall, prints spanning over 40 years silently illustrate the dedication and achievements of generations of Qidong printmakers.
According to Zhang Shuixiong, president of the Qidong Printmaking Institute, the exhibition features a curated selection of representative works that trace the artistic development of Qidong printmaking, from its early beginnings to its current maturity.
Founded in 1985 with the support of local authorities and artists, the Qidong Printmaking Institute marked the transition of the city's printmaking from an amateur pursuit to a professional art form. Over the past 40 years, the institute has produced more than 2,000 high-quality prints, with over 200 works selected for international biennales and national exhibitions. More than 200 pieces have been collected by leading museums and art institutions at home and abroad. The institute has published nearly 200 volumes of art catalogues and journals and held over 50 exhibitions worldwide.
In addition to exhibitions, the institute actively promotes printmaking education, partnering with multiple primary and secondary schools across Qidong to establish printmaking education bases. It hosts over 100 free training sessions annually.
"Qidong printmaking resonates with the spirit of the times. It retains a strong connection to local culture while embracing an international outlook," said Zhou Jingxin, vice-chairman of the Jiangsu Federation of Literary and Art Circles and chairman of the Jiangsu Artists Association. He praised the institute for consistently nurturing new talent and producing fresh, impactful works.
